Thermal man in jail after drug bust

A Thermal man arrested at a residence where authorities found heroin and methamphetamine with a street value in excess of $54,000 remained behind bars Friday, a sheriff’s deputy said.

Rigoberto Gonzalez, 46, was taken into custody when authorities served a narcotics-related search warrant at a residence in the 88-300 block of Avenue 55 in Thermal on Thursday, said Deputy Armando Munoz.

Investigators confiscated about two pounds of heroin, a “substantial amount” of meth and more than $30,000 in cash, he said.

Gonzalez was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail at the county jail in Indio on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sales, according to jail records.
