Two dead in Palm Springs crash

Palm Springs police say two men died after a car they were in ran into a palm tree near the intersection of North Indian Canyon and East Racquet Club Drive.

It happened just before 10:30 Saturday night.

Witnesses say they heard a screech of tires before a loud crash.

Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Winnetka, and a passenger, a 38-year-old man from Los Angeles, both died at the scene. They will be identified by the coroner following notification to next-of-kin.

Police closed the streets for several hours while conducting an investigation into caused the crash.
