CVUSD clarifies details of child left on bus
We are learning more information about a special needs child was left on a school bus Monday.
We were the first to bring you the story Wednesday night. Thursday we have learned the incident happened Monday morning not Monday afternoon as we reported.
Coachella Valley Unified School District Superintendent Darryl Adams also told us Thursday the 6th grade student did not attended John Kelley Elementary School as he first told us, but rather Valle del Sol Elementary School.
The child was left on the bus, apparently forgotten about by a bus driver and a trainer who was also on the bus. both have been placed on administrative leave while the district continues their investigation.
Adams says a fellow bus driver found the child in the stair well of the bus at the school bus yard.
Adams says he was left alone for 30 minutes but was ok and has resumed riding the bus.
CVUSD also released this statement Thursday.
“On Monday, September 8, 2014 at approximately 9:00 am in the morning, an observant CVUSD bus driver noticed a student standing in the stairwell of one of the buses that had just returned from its route. The bus driver immediately took action and checked to make sure the student was okay and took the student into the office. The HR Department immediately commenced an investigation and have put two employees on administrative pending the results of an ongoing investigation.
Superintendent Darryl Adams stated, ‘In CVUSD, Student safety is Priority #1. We will continue to work with staff to ensure adherence to policies and procedures to protect the wellbeing of all of our students.'”
