Campaign says it was a mistake

People reading through their sample ballots for November’s election may notice something missing.

There’s no candidate statement from Rep. Raul Ruiz in his bid for re-election in the 36th Congressional District. The only candidate statement for the race is from his Republican challenger, State Assemblyman Brian Nestande.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters tells News Channel 3 that Ruiz’s campaign sent his statement in late and it had to be rejected for printing.

Ruiz’s camp is taking the blame, calling it a mistake. A spokesman said they thought it had to be post marked by the deadline of August 8th and not actually turned-in by that date.
