Riverside County sends condolences to Prime Minister of Canada

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors sent a letter expressing its condolences to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper after Wednesday’s attack on Parliament Hill and the National War Memorial.

Dear Honourable Prime Minister Harper:

I am writing on behalf of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, State of California, United States of America, and our 2.3 million county residents to express our sincerest condolences to your nation following the shooting on Parliament Hill and your National War Memorial. We are the winter home to many of your fellow Canadians and have a very sacred place in our hearts and minds for your nation and people.

Having been to Ottawa on official travel this past year, visiting your Parliament and War Memorial in such a beautiful city makes learning of the news of the loss of a soldier even more shocking. All Canadians are in our thoughts and prayers, following this tragic series of attacks, and I know it is safe to say that today all the world are Canadians.

Again, our sincerest condolences to you, your fellow Canadians, and the soldier’s family left behind by this senseless and cowardly attack.

FOR THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD,

Thomas L. Freeman, Commissioner.
