‘No homework’ school fundraiser idea nixed
A Southern California elementary school has shut down a fundraising idea to let youngsters skip homework if their parents donate money.
The Orange County Register says the concept was thought up by Project LEAP, a parent-volunteer group that raises money for Lee Elementary School in Los Alamitos.
The group recently sent out fliers that said students could forego homework for a week if their family donated $100.
Trouble is, school officials weren’t consulted.
School district Superintendent Sherry Kropp says the effort was shut down Wednesday after the school’s principal found out.
Kropp says any parents who donated can either get a refund or let the group keep the money – but their kids won’t get out of homework either way.
