Kamala Harris retakes oath as state top enforcer
Kamala Harris is touting her fight against organized human trafficking as she is sworn in to her second four-year term as California’s top law enforcement official.
Among the brightest Democratic stars, Harris is widely expected to be preparing for a run for governor or U.S. Senate.
When she takes her oath of office Monday afternoon, Harris is expected to discuss progress by her attorney general’s office in battling international cartels that deal in guns, drugs and people.
She plans to outline her office’s success in clearing a troublesome backlog in testing DNA samples that can link criminals to crimes.
Harris also is announcing a new bureau to focus on crimes against children. Its work will expand on priorities during Harris’ first four years, including deterring school truancy.
