Man’s body found in Palm Desert golf course pond
Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department have confirmed to News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that a man’s body was found floating in a pond at the Palm Desert J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Hotel Thursday afternoon, but they haven’t confirmed if the body is that of missing 33-year-old Omar Meza.
Rescue efforts began taking place to retrieve the body after the discovery was made around 2:15 p.m., according to deputies.
The body has been taken to the coroner’s office. The cause of death is under investigation and confirmation of the body is expected to be made Thursday night.
Crews have been searching ponds and surrounding areas of the golf course for the past week after Meza went missing last Thursday night, but they hadn’t found any evidence pointing them to his whereabouts. The dive teams stopped searching the ponds at the golf course on Wednesday.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver more details as soon as they’re available.
