Spectators enjoy Opening Day of Sunday Polo at Eldorado Polo Club
On Sunday, the Eldorado Polo Club kicked off its first Sunday Polo of the 2022 season.
“The sun, the friends, the community, it’s all of it. I mean you can’t ask for a better day like this,” said attendee Raphael Aguirre.
Dozens of spectators lined the field for opening day.
“We’ve come every year so we’re usually on that side but this time with the bigger set up we wanted to come out and be on that side to kind spread our wings," Aguirre added.
Two teams went head to head on horseback with their wooden mallets over four periods.
"We really love watching the horses and the interaction with the fans with the horses,” said Cathy Danaher. “I’ve always loved the horses, I always grew up around the horses that sort of thing,” said Tim Danaher.
Spectators were excited to be back on the polo field, after an almost 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic. “It’s just fun getting out and about and we got the outdoor weather and environment and just a good time without anytime,” said attendee Kyle Huddy.
Although the game took center stage, attendees were also thrilled to tailgate and be with their loved ones.
“Just meeting up friends on the sidelines. You know, just gathering and having a good time,” said attendee Lisa Marie Grimes.
Fans took to the field for 10 minutes break to join in on the halftime divot stomp tradition.
"I like the atmosphere, the people are really friendly, Danahy added, "Replacing the divots for sure you know, and the champagne during that break you know and all that."
Sunday polo takes place weekly through March 27, 2022.
