FAA issues temporary flight restrictions due to presidential visit

Flights in and around Palm Springs International Airport will be affected by President Obama’s upcoming visit to the Coachella Valley over Valentine’s Day weekend.

President Obama will be in the Coachella Valley from Saturday through Monday.

According to the temporary flight restriction orders issued by the Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday, there will be a 30-mile radius of restricted flight space during his stay.

The flight restrictions will be in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Monday.

Pilots are urged to check the FAA’s website for detailed information about the flight restrictions that affect all flights except law enforcement, military aircraft supporting the presidential visit, and regularly scheduled commercial passenger and cargo carriers.

Some of the unauthorized flights include aerobatic flight, gliders, parachuting, banner towing, unmanned aircraft systems and drone planes.

Hot air balloons are also restricted in the no-fly zone, but officials with Cathedral City said that won’t affect on the hot air balloon event scheduled for the weekend.
