The California Highway Patrol says a man drove into the back of a slow-moving truck and was killed early Saturday morning in Cathedral City.

The collision happened around 3 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 10, east of Palm Drive.

CHP says the driver, 26-year-old David Escarcega of Desert Hot Springs, had been traveling east when he rammed his 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo into the back of the slower-moving truck.

He died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 34-year-old resident of Mexicali, Mexico, was not injured.

The wreck was under investigation, it was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
