No injuries as train hits empty vehicle in Ventura County
Authorities in Southern California say no one was injured when an Amtrak passenger train with 85 people aboard hit an empty vehicle stopped on the tracks.
The Sunday night incident occurred on a stretch of track in Camarillo northwest of Los Angeles that is about 10 miles from the area where a commuter train hit an empty truck five days earlier, derailing three cars and injuring 30 people.
In the latest crash, Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Lindbery says the two people abandoned their vehicle before the train ran into it.
It wasn’t immediately clear what kind of vehicle it was or why it had stopped on the tracks. It was raining heavily at the time.
Lindbery says an ambulance responded to the scene, but was released when there were no injured to transport.
