West Shores HS boy’s soccer wins first ever CIF state championship
For the first time in school history, the West Shores High School boy’s soccer team won its first CIF State Championship. The team defeated Webb Schools on Saturday with a final score of 2-1.
Goals were scored by Moises Alvarez, one minute before halftime, and the second goal was scored by Gustavo Meza five minutes into the second half. The team did face a challenge having only ten players on the field due to a red card for 35 minutes in the second half.
But even then, they pulled through for an amazing comeback after being eliminated in the Southern Section Semi-finals.
“From redeeming our dream to living our dream, nothing better than being a Wildcat!!” said head coach Luiz Martinez, while the boys on the team responded to the win with, “I arriva la West Shores!!”
Board Members and Superintendents Adams will be recognizing the soccer team and their achievement at the next board meeting on Tuesday, April 14.
“On behalf of the CVUSD Board of Trustees and the CVUSD Family we congratulate our West Shores team and coaches for making history and winning their first CIF State Championship in Boys Soccer. Go Wildcats! We are all so proud!” said Superintendent Darryl Adams.
