College student attending “Coachella” killed by train

A University of Colorado student who was attending “Coachella” this weekend was struck and killed by a train.

23-year old Jannik Andersen, was hit by a train early Saturday morning confirms the Riverside County Coroner’s Office in Indio.

Andersen’s school newspaper, CU News, says the University of Colorado-Boulder student was attending Coachella this weekend and that Andersen was from San Diego and was a non-degree seeking Continuing Education student at CU.

Indio police confirmed that they got a call around 3:12 a.m. Saturday morning that a person had been struck by a train at the junction near Avenue 48 and Indio Blvd. Indio police also stated the death investigation will be handled by Union Pacific.

The Coroner’s office says factors that may have lead to Andersen being on the tracks at that time are still under investigation.
