Police say DUI driver involved in overnight collision involving ambulance

Police were investigating an overnight suspected DUI-related collision involving an ambulance late Wednesday night.

Rescue crews were called to the intersection of Gerald Ford Drive and Monterey Avenue at 11:30 p.m.

That’s where police say a motorist in a black GMC pick up truck rear-ended a private ambulance stopped at the intersection.

The truck then hit a curb and rolled, taking out a traffic light and causing a local power outage.

It’s driver was identified as Nestor Felipe Enriquez, 32, of Cathedral City.

First responders used a hydraulic cutter to remove the Enriquez from the wreckage.

Firefighters said his foot was stuck under the dashboard.

Enriquez was then taken to the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage where he was treated for minor injuries.

Neither of the two ambulance workers suffered any injuries.

Their names were not available early Thursday morning.

Police say Enriquez provided a breath sample at the hospital and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.

Enriquez was arrested for DUI, then booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio with bail set at $2500.

He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
