Out-of-control turbine stopped spinning on its own

The California Highway Patrol put out an alert Wednesday morning after officers were forced to close Dillon Road between Indian Canyon Drive and Diablo Road due to an out-of-control turbine.

CHP posted the information around 11:30 a.m. Officers said the turbine was located a quarter mile west of Pierce Road on the west side of Dillon Road.

Officers said the turbine could not be shut off and eventually it could either explode and send pieces flying, or collapse and potentially hit the road. They said some fallen debris had already landed in the roadway Wednesday.

But no destruction came from the out-of-control turbine. Officials with Cal Fire said the turbine stopped spinning on its own Wednesday afternoon.

CHP shut down all traffic in the area for over an hour before reopening the road.
