Weekend two Coachella tickets sell for under face value
Weekend two of Coachella Music and Art Festival is underway but the sold-out concert might not be drawing the same crowds as last weekend. As of Friday morning there were still tickets left and many sold throughout the day for under face value.
It’s big disappointment for those looking to sell tickets.
“I heard in previous years they were selling tickets up to $1,000 apiece,” said Abiub Franco who was trying to sell tickets.
“It was crazy last year, but this year is different, way different,” said Eric MacDonald, who is looking for tickets.
Before the music started playing at the Polo Grounds, popular sites like Stub Hub and Tickets Now listed the $375 general admission tickets at $350 or below.
As the day went on, prices dropped even more. We found tickets listed for $300, $209, even $200 on Craigslist.
“Unfortunately this year hasn’t been very good for Coachella Fest, not as much demand as previous years,” said Franco.
“Scalpers aren’t having their way, it’s kind of nice,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald told us he will wait hours for a lower price.
“I’m kind of broke this year. I will take what I can get, hopefully something cheap,” said MacDonald.
These prices ares opening up the three-day concert to people who might not otherwise go.
“We decided to go last minute and a friend of a friend of a friend was selling tickets for really cheap and gave us two for $450, it was pretty great,” said Justin Lopez.
For people trying to sell tickets, it’s a struggle to break even.
“I was expecting to make at least a couple of hundred dollars a ticket, I guess I am just going to get my money back,” said Franco.
“We are just trying not to lose money,” said Isaac Reyes.
The biggest reason we heard for the lackluster prices: the lineup.
“The lineup is OK, it wasn’t as good as last year,” said Lopez.
“I think last year was better,” said Reyes.
“There are so many festivals these days, people are like I have to save my money for this festival because there are so many all the time,” said Lopez.
“I’m a little disappointed, but hopefully next year will be better,” said Franco.
