DMV alerts customers after incoming mail stolen in Riverside
The California Department of Motor Vehicles is warning customers after close to 30 pieces of incoming mail was stolen from mailboxes outside the DMV Riverside Call Center and DMV East Riverside Field Office in March.
According to the DMV’s release, the mail theft occurred during the weekends of March 21 and March 28, and may have involved personal information from customers.
“We are committed to protecting personal and confidential information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto. “We are taking action to inform our customers about the unauthorized access to their mailed information, and are closely working with law enforcement on this matter.”
Officials said the DMV is unable to identify who sent the mail because it was incoming.
If you sent mail to the Riverside Call Center or East Riverside Field Office that could have arrived during the weekends of March 21 or March 28, officials urge you to call 1-800-777-0133 to ask about the status of your mail.
The Riverside Police Department is investigating the incident. The DMV is working with the U.S.P.S. to prevent similar security issues from happening in the future.
