Family pleads for shooting suspect to turn himself in to police
A mother in Desert Hot Springs is pleading for her son to turn himself in to the sheriff’s department, after being on the run for three weeks.
KESQ brought this story to you as breaking news when the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had a stand off in an unincorporated part of Desert Hot Springs looking for the suspected shooter on April 3.
Now, that shooters family wants this fugitive to turn himself in so he can tell his side of the story.
“I was awoken to earthquake sounds coming from my living area in the hallway, and my son told me it was a tussle,” said Mary Moore. Her son, 33-year-old Eric Brown, allegedly shot a man in her living room.
“I came into here from the bedroom and I saw the blood and I was standing in the hallway and I was looking for my son and then and he told me what happened, he and Eric Jones tussled to get the gun because he was threatening to kill us,” said Moore.
The victim was shot in the arm and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
“The family believes Eric was defending himself and it was a foolish move for him to leave, he feared for his safety and so we are appealing for him to turn himself in,” said Pastor Carl McPeters who has know Moore for several years.
Brown is described as a black male, 180 pounds, about 6 feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
