Southern California freeway to remain closed until Tuesday after fire
A section of a Southern California freeway remains closed as crews repair damage to the roadway caused when a tanker truck loaded with 8,500 gallons of gasoline overturned and burst into flames.
The California Highway Patrol said early Monday that all southbound lanes of State Route 710 in Bell will remain shut down until Tuesday.
The fire Sunday afternoon sent up a plume of black smoke that could be seen for hours.
The truck driver was freed by firefighters and treated at the scene.
Officials said about 500 gallons of fuel spilled.
The fire shut down both directions of the freeway for hours as crews worked to put out the flames and clean up the mess.
The north side of the freeway was reopened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
