“LionHeart Owen” blood drive in Palm Desert

A local family’s little boy Owen Thomas Vatter had the heart of a lion, they say, but that heart stopped beating due to a defect.

The family is on a plight to save lives and enhance the lives of kids with cancer with the LionHeart Owen Foundation. The foundation collected more than five thousand books for children, added hundreds to the national organ donor list, and is now hosting it’s second blood drive.

Sacred Heart Church is hosting blood drive at the Salta Center at the corner of Deep Canyon and Fred Waring at 43775 Deep Canyon Rd, in Palm Desert, from 10 a.m. To 2 p.m. Appointments are recommended but not necessary.

The event provides treats, crafts for kids, and music. Each donor is entered to win a family four pack of tickets to Disneyland or Disney California Adventure.

A note from the family: Owen was born with Truncus Arteriosus Type II, TAPVR, neuroblastoma, 22q11 microduplication, and developed pulmonary vein stenosis. He had his 1st open heart surgery on May 16, 2013 and his 2nd surgery on July 22, 2013. Owen fought like a mighty Lion and moved mountains from his tiny room at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Owen gained the most beautiful pair of angel wings on September 4, 2013. Please follow our journey and learn how our tiny miracle has changed lives and continues to inspire people all around the world.
