Delays expected on I-10 this weekend

Motorists planning to use Interstate 10 near Blythe on Saturday should be prepared for delays, Caltrans announced Wednesday.

Between 6 a.m. and noon that day, workers from Nextera Energy will be
stringing new transmission lines and optical fiber cables across the freeway,
in the vicinity of Blythe Municipal Airport, about 10 miles east of the Wiley
Wells State Roadside Rest Area.

“Five traffic breaks are needed to transfer the lines,” Caltrans District 8 spokeswoman Shelli Lombardo said. “The California Highway Patrol will stop traffic for 10 minutes during each of the five breaks.”

The interruptions will affect both east- and westbound traffic.
