CHP releases Indio area DUI stats from 4th of July

The California Highway Patrol was out in force over the 4th of July weekend. This year, they arrested fewer people in the Indio area for driving under the influence than in the two previous years.

But officers did note that this year’s ‘maximum enforcement period’ was 24 hours shorter than in 2014.

According to officials, the maximum enforcement period began at 6 p.m. Friday July 3, and ended on July 5 at 11:59 p.m. Officers released the following results from the holiday weekend:

2015 2014 2013 Total Collisions 10 9 13 Fatal Collisions 1 0 1 Injury Collisions 4 4 5 DUI Collisions 1 2 13 DUI Arrests 10 21 13

CHP arrested 20 people on suspicion of drunken driving in the Riverside area during the maximum enforcement period. The 20 people arrested on suspicion of DUI compares to 34 taken into custody during the 2014 July Fourth weekend MEP, according to Officer Christina Wood.

The agency’s next maximum enforcement campaign is planned for Labor Day
weekend.

The CHP asks you to use a sober driver or another safe form of transportation to keep everyone safe on the road.
