Golf tournament raises money for retired boxers

The World Boxing Council (WBC) held its first annual WBC Cares Pro Am Golf Tournament Wednesday at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont. Around 80 champion boxers, sports stars and celebrities attended the event. All of the proceeds raised go to the WBC Cares Retired Boxers Fund.

“This is very important because it helps fighters who are homeless, fighters who are down and out that need help,” said world champion fighter, Ruben Castillo.

Some big names at the event included Frank Stallone, Danny Lopez, Carlos Palomino and Henry Tillman. The organizers look forward to the event’s growth in years to come.

“We expected a lot more players than we have this year, but it’s the first year so the organization of it,” said professional boxing coach, Abel Sanchez. “I’m sure will start today to set it up for the next event year.”

The goal was to raise 25 thousand dollars.
