Mill 2 Fire is burning west of Lake Fire

Fire crews are battling a new wildfire north of Yucaipa in the San Bernardino National Forest.

What’s now being called the Mill 2 fire started in Mill Creek Canyon near Highway 38 and Bryant street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

So far it’s burned about 35 acres up steep chaparral covered slopes forcing the evacuation of four home.

A drone temporarily stopped air operations, but firefighters quickly resumed after the airspace was cleared.

The fire is 10 percent contained.

17 fire engines, five helicopters and several air tankers were ordered in response to the wildfire.

Highway 38 was temporarily closed but is now back open.

Lake Fire is approximately 31,359 acres in size and is 98% contained. The fire is still producing smoke, with heavy fuels smoldering within the perimeter. Smoke may be seen from Highway 38, however it is all well inside the containment lines.

The Lake Fire was reported just before 4:00 pm on June 17, 2015.
