Firefighters tackle mulch fire in Thermal

Firefighters battled a mulch fire that ignited near the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal Saturday.

Flames sparked around 2 p.m. on Airport Boulevard and Tyler Street.

Cal Fire said the 150 foot length fire was in a deep-seeded mulch pile and reached heights of 10 to 15 feet.

The first reporting firefighters called in for three additional engines and an additional water truck to fight the blaze.

No word what caused the fire.
