Low gas prices could add more traffic this holiday
With lower gas prices more people are hitting the road this Labor Day weekend.
Long lines of motorists waited to fill up at some of the cheapest gas stations in Palm Desert. Gas prices are down compared to this time last year and local gas station owners are welcoming in the extra drivers that are hitting the roads.
“Labor Day is an extremely important weekend for us here in the area, we get a lot of freeway traffic as well as the local community, so we look forward to being really busy this weekend,” said Chadi Bawardi manager of the Valero Gas Station in Thousand Palms.
“The gas prices dropping is awesome, I just traveled near Fresno and they were in the $2.80 range which was awesome,” said Ron Moser of Hesperia.
With construction on the 10 freeway near Desert Center following July’s bridge collapse, travelers going to and from Phoenix will have to pump their brakes, if only for a few miles.
“It has been pretty clear they got that bridge detour thing worked out pretty good,” said Tony Mollner who is traveling from Tucson.
Drivers can expect to slow down on Interstate 15 heading through the Cajon Pass towards Las Vegas as well. If you’re heading there form the Coachella Valley you might want to take Highway 247 to get around it.
If you are staying in our area you’ll see an increased police presence on the roads. There are additional DUI checkpoints that will be operating in our valley this weekend.
