Businesses cited for illegal alcohol sales

An undercover “minor decoy” was able to purchase alcohol from six Palm Springs businesses, according to police during an operation Tuesday.

Three police officers worked with an agent of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to visit 16 businesses to see if they were following state law on underage alcohol sales.

An underage decoy minor attempted to purchase alcohol at each location.

10 businesses did not sell.

But police said 6 businesses were found in violation and cited.

Stater Bros Supermarket, 1717 East Vista Chino, Palm Springs

7 Eleven Store, 150 West Vista Chino, Palm Springs

Windy Cove Mart, 60490 Overture Drive, Palm Springs

Locomotive Liquor, 162 East Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs

Palm Canyon Liquor, 1400 South Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs

Palm Springs Liquor, 1200 North Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs

Each business was cited for selling an alcoholic beverage to a minor, a misdemeanor violation of 25658(a) Business and Professions Code.

The operation is funded by a state grant awarded to the city.
