Congressman Ruiz participates in CVUSD ‘Principal for a Day’ program

The Coachella Valley Unified School District invited 20 Coachella Valley businesses and community leaders to participate in the ‘Principal for a Day’ program on Thursday. Congressman Raul Ruiz was one of the featured guests.

Officials said Principals for a Day spend time with their assigned school’s principal, faculty and students to learn about the school’s day-to-day operations. A guest principal’s schedule may include reading to students, attending student performances, addressing a class assembly, or participating in other activities of their choice.

Guest principals are invited from a variety of occupations, leadership positions and organizations in the Coachella Valley, officials said in a release.

“I’m looking forward to learning about the hard work teachers, parents, and staff undertake to educate our children. More than anything, I’m looking forward to spending the day with our East Valley students, personally hearing about their dreams and aspirations,” said Congressman Raul Ruiz, guest principal for Mecca Elementary School.

The day wrapped up with all guest principals gathering for an honorary luncheon at Desert Mirage High School at 11:30 a.m., where they were able to recap the day and share their individual experiences.

CVUSD Superintendent Darryl Adams presented certificates of appreciation to guest principals for their participation.

“We appreciate that so many community members are taking the time to visit our school sites for the “Principals for a Day” event,” said Superintendent Adams, “We’re looking forward to sharing with them our school successes and the incredible collaboration between our CVUSD staff, parents, teachers, and administrators.
