Elementary School in La Quinta may be closing

The Desert Sands Unified School District is considering a plan to consolidate some schools and close John Adams Elementary School in La Quinta.

Under the plan, the district would create a K-8 pathway on the campus of Harry S. Truman Elementary and La Quinta Middle School.

There are three elementary schools close to each other in La Quinta with student populations well below capacity.

Students currently enrolled at Adams would be assigned to either Franklin or Truman.

The district is studying the possibility of using the Adams campus to meet other student or district needs.

Superintendent Gary Rutherford, Ed.D., noted that all options were explored in the consolidation recommendation and all factors were taken into consideration.
