Border Patrol seizes meth found in seat cushions
A suspected drug smuggler was arrested by Border Patrol at the Highway 86 checkpoint Tuesday morning after finding methamphetamine stashed in the seat cushions of his car.
Agents said the 33-year-old man from the U.S. was stopped at about 10:30 a.m. as he approached the checkpoint in a Toyota Avalon.
According to a release, a Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the car for a secondary inspection. After searching the vehicle, agents discovered 44 bundles of methamphetamine wrapped in brown tape hidden in the car’s seat cushions.
Authorities said the meth weighed 60.73 lbs. and is worth an estimated $546,570 on the street.
The suspect and the narcotics are now in the hands of the DEA as the investigation continues.
