2 fires investigated as possible arson near 29 Palms

The San Bernardino County Fire Department is investigating two fires that ignited Sunday night as possible arson. Both structure fires occurred in Wonder Valley, authorities announced Monday morning.

Deputies and firefighters responded to the first fire at about 7:15 p.m. Officials said a structure was engulfed in flames on Meriweather Road, near Virginia Road.

The fire department extinguished the flames quickly and an investigation began.

About three hours after the first fire was reported, firefighters were called to the 79000 block of Amboy Road to another fully-involved structure fire, according to the release.

Authorities said evidence was found at the second fire which prompted the arson investigation. The cause of both fires is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about either of the fires is asked to call Deputy Armando Cantu with the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station at 760-366-4175. You can also leave information anonymously by calling the We-TIP Hotline at 1-800-366-4175.
