Man identified in deadly I-10 crash west of Blythe
A Whittier man was killed early Thursday in a solo-vehicle rollover crash on the 10 Freeway west of Blythe. The crash occurred on the westbound 10 at Mile Marker 124, according to the California Highway Patrol.
David Zamayao, 30, died at the scene at 12:48 p.m., according to county coroner officials.
Officer Mike Radford with CHP said Zamayao was driving a Ford F-150 in the left lane. Florencio Sanchez, a 48-year-old man from La Puente, was driving a freightliner tractor trailer in the right lane.
The investigation revealed that the F-150 passed the freightliner and traveled into the right lane when the right side of the Ford collided with the left side of the freightliner, according to the CHP’s release.
The collision caused the F-150 to travel to the left and into the center divider, where the pickup overturned into the Cactus Wash, Radford said. The man was ejected in the crash and died at the scene.
The collision is under investigation. It’s unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Officer Radford said Sanchez wasn’t injured in the collision.
The freeway was temporarily shut down to allow a helicopter to land to pick up the patient.
