New boutique hotel opens in Palm Springs
Excitement has been building up at the V this week, as staff opened the newest boutique hotel in Palm Springs.
“The most exciting thing is getting reservations, and guests coming in through the doors, and actually experiencing our independent boutique hotel,” Filament Hospitality Vice President of Operations said. “It’s really all about the experience. I think consumers are now looking for a unique experience that’s local, or locality driven.”
Local hospitality experts say boutique hotels have helped drive the economy in Palm Springs for almost a decade, bringing in millions of dollars and a younger crowd to the city.
“These are the upcoming folks that will have a lot of disposable income,” PS Resorts Chairman Aftab Dada said. “It all started with Goldenvoice bringing the Coachella events, and then PS Resorts along with other partners created the Tachevah. We’ve now got the Splash House and day time music programming. Tt’s a combination of all that that have helped tremendously.”
Patten said it took about a year and $15 million to renovate the 140-room hotel he and others say will hope to bring more millenials to the area.
“I just think there’s opportunity,” Patten said. “I think as the economy has rebounded from 2009, there’s been a lot of opportunity for development. It just happens to happen in the South Palm Springs area, as well as downtown.”
“Palm Springs was considered a dated, old folks resort town,” Dada said. “And now with the millenials, we are really bringing in the customers that we really want to have for our future.”
Patten said Los Angeles celebrity lawyers Mark Geragos and Brian Kabateck are the owners of the new hotel.
He said some of the hotels amenities including aquatic yoga will help play a role in attracting millenials.
