East valley art students get special tour of Coachella Fest
Sixty art students from the east valley got a special ticket for a private tour of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio Thursday.
The Coachella Valley Unified School District partnered with the festival organizer Goldenvoice and Raices Cultura, a non-profit organization focused on local art and culture, to make it happen.
The middle school and high school students met the creators of this year’s art installations and asked them questions about their work.
The six featured artists are from around the world and the Coachella Valley.
“It’s a really cool opportunity not a lot of people get to do ever,” said 12th grader Brianna Garcia.
“It’ll inspire the kids to show the what they can achieve, that it could be displayed at a large event like this,” said Shane Reyes, After School Education and Safety coordinator at Cahuilla Desert Academy.
With help from Raices Cultura, students get to show off an art installation of their own at the festival. The pyramids they created can be seen at the festival campgrounds.
