400 locals volunteered for annual Day of Service

Hundreds gathered at the Bermuda Dunes Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; not for a religious service, but community service.

Karen Enos is the event chairperson for Coachella Valley’s 8th Annual Community Just Serve Day. She coordinated 400 volunteers from across the valley participating in a wide range of service activities. Enos worked closely with County Supervisor John J. Benoit and other local leaders to spread the word to 26 different service sites including schools, senior centers, local shelters, and more. Benoit led one group to the Safe House of the Desert.

“It’s here primarily for teenagers who have serious problems at home have run into a situation where they can’t survive on their own and need help,” said Benoit.

Volunteers at the safe house spent the day beautifying the area by landscaping and gardening.
