Palm Springs tattoo, piercing shop cashes in on music festivals
For most festival goers, the big weekends are all about music and memories. Before their flight home to Canada, a group of young women wanted something to remember their Coachella weekend by forever. They stopped at Adornment Piercing & Private Tattoo Studios in Palm Springs.
“We’re getting a tattoo because we were just at Coachella,” said Kourtney Hunt from Canada.
They got tattoos of the words “Besame Mucho,” one of the art installations at Coachella this year and they’re now permanently on their hands and ankles thanks to artists at Adornment.
Owner Jose Tallon said the shop on Tahquitz Canyon Way saw 70 people or more each weekend of Coachella Fest 2016. That’s compared to the 20-30 people on a normal weekend.
“We did tons of piercings, we sold tons of jewelry, did a lot of great tattoos,” Tallon. “I think people really knew where we were at. We did probably a good 20 percent higher than we did last year.”
According to economists hired by Goldenvoice people spend more than $400 million in the Coachella Valley during Coachella Fest and Stagecoach.
More than $100 million goes to the city of Indio alone.
The tattoo shop in Palm Springs is grateful to be feeling the love. Tallon expects more tattoos will be booked during Stagecoach weekend.
