Overnight construction closes eastbound I-10 freeway lanes
UPDATE: 6:15 a.m.
The freeway was reopened at Jefferson, but a back up of traffic reached past Washington Boulevard to the west. Bumper to bumper traffic was reported. The road is open though and the delays were expected to be brief.
An overnight freeway closure was impacting traffic on Interstate 10 in Indio early Tuesday morning.
Eastbound freeway traffic was being detoured off the freeway and onto a frontage road as crews worked to place steel girders for a second new bridge now under construction at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound I-10 traffic was not impacted by the closure.
Eastbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.
No major delays were being reported as of 4:00 a.m., but traffic typically picks up at 5:00 a.m., so motorists were urged to use caution.
