2 teens arrested after ditching stolen car in Palm Springs
The Palm Springs Police Department arrested two 16-year-old suspects who ran from officers after a short pursuit in a stolen car Monday afternoon.
Police received calls about two suspicious teenagers lingering around a car in the parking lot of Panda Express, located in the 400 block of S. Sunrise Way, at 12:50 p.m. The teens were seen entering the car and driving away, according to Sgt. William Hutchinson with the Palm Springs Police Department.
Officers checked the area and immediately found the teens in the stolen car as they were driving on Ramon Road and Avenue Caballeros. At that point, police realized the car was stolen and a short chase began as the suspects tried to evade officers through Palm Springs.
The teens pulled over at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Calle El Segundo at about 1:30 p.m., where they ran away from the stolen car, officers said in the release.
The suspects were found hiding in a nearby apartment at about 1:45 p.m. They were arrested and will be booked into Juvenile Hall in Indio, Sgt. Hutchinson said.
A third suspect, unrelated to the stolen car, was also arrested at the apartment where the teens were hiding. Officers said 20-year-old Gladimiro Moreno of Palm Springs was arrested for violating his probation and for delaying officers. He was also hiding from officers and lied about his name.
No additional information about the suspects, or the stolen car, has been released yet. The 16-year-old suspects won’t be identified because they are minors.
