Police sweep nets two Cathedral City DUI suspects
The Cathedral City Police Department announced Monday results of a sweep on Friday that resulted in the arrests of two suspects with outstanding DUI warrants.
The special DUI warrant service operation saw officers serving 30 warrants and arresting two suspected offenders who either failed to show up for a court date or violated terms of their probation in an outstanding DUI case.
No photos were provided of the suspects, but a department release said, “Some think if they just don’t show up for a court hearing, the police won’t have the manpower to come find them. If your violation is a DUI, don’t count on it.”
The warrant operation worked in several neighborhoods in search of high risk DUI offenders.
“The best bet for anyone with a missed DUI court date is to go to court on their own now,” said Sergeant Nick Chapman. “If you don’t, that warrant isn’t going away. We’re going to come find you and take you to jail.”
DUI suspects who are later caught often face additional jail time for failing to appear in court or for violating probation.
The warrant service operations along with high visibility’ DUI enforcement are designed to lower deaths and injury by removing impaired drivers from local roads.
The operation is provided by a grant form the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
