An overnight freeway closure was slowing traffic along Interstate 10 in Indio early Friday morning.
WESTBOUND freeway traffic was being detoured off Interstate 10 at the Jefferson Street exit, then using Varner Road until reentering the freeway at Washington Street.
Eastbound freeway traffic was not affected by the closure.
Traffic typically picks up at 5:00 a.m., so motorists were urged to use caution as delays may increase.
Traffic entering the freeway from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street was also forced to detour onto Varner Road.
Crews are working on a second new bridge now under construction at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m. Friday.
