Stolen SUV discovered in All-American Canal
Police were continuing to investigate after a stolen SUV was found submerged in water in an Indio canal.
Authorities were notified of the vehicle in the All-American Canal Thursday shortly before noon.
At the time, there were concerns whether anyone was inside an SUV found fully submerged.
A passerby found the vehicle at 11:33 a.m. inside the All-American Canal near the intersection of Avenue 44 and Dillon Road, said Indio Police Sgt. Dan Marshall.
It was unknown at the time if anyone was inside the vehicle.
A sheriff’s department dive team was called in to investigate the vehicle which the current was continuing to move.
Police found tire tracks in the area, but no other indications the SUV was involved in a crash, said Marshall.
No bodies were found in the vehicle, and it was later determined to have been stolen then dumped in the canal.
The investigation continues.
