Coachella Valley’s first outdoor ice skating rink to open in Rancho Mirage

The Coachella Valley’s first outdoor ice skating rink is set to open at The River shopping center in Rancho Mirage two days before Thanksgiving, officials announced Tuesday.

The Rink at the River will debut Nov. 22 and will be open through Jan. 8, featuring several holiday-oriented events during its run, including a Nov. 29 Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, live music and an ice-skating Santa.

“We’re thrilled to offer an activity for everyone to enjoy during this special time of year,” said Ungar Kung, director of acquisitions at CheerLand Investment Group, which owns the shopping center.

“Ice skating at The River is for all — families and friends, the young and young at heart, locals and visitors — and this will be the place for some of the best entertainment, people watching, shopping and dining in the Coachella Valley over the holidays,” Kung said.
