Teenager arrested following drive-by shooting in Palm Springs
The Palm Springs Police Department detained two suspects following a drive-by shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon near Via Escuela and Volturno Road. One teenager was later arrested.
Officers said nobody was shot in Palm Springs, but the department found evidence of the shooting and began searching for the suspects at about 2 p.m. Officers were able to catch up to them in Cathedral City near the Lawrence Welk resort at about 4 p.m. after a short pursuit.
The victims of the car-to-car shooting on the 2000 block of Via Escuela told KESQ and CBS Local 2’s Joe Galli that they were driving north on Volturno Road. The suspects were in the intersection in a blue sedan when they fired four shots at the victim’s SUV. Fortunately, all of the bullets missed.
It appears the victim knows the shooter and was able to tell police the identity of the shooter.
The alleged shooter was later identified as Nysoni Randolph, 18. He was arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and evading a police officer.
Palm Springs Police Sgt. William Hutchinson says the other person detained was a juvenile, and was later released.
