Coroner identifies pedestrian after deadly collision in Thermal
A man struck by a car Thursday night at a Thermal intersection died at a hospital, the California Highway Patrol reported Friday.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 59-year-old Jose Zavala of Thermal.
Zavala was hit at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Harrison Street and Avenue 66, said CHP Officer Mike Radford. Authorities said he was in the intersection when a 2016 Honda Accord, driven by 27-year-old Yuli Oliverasbecerra, struck the man on the car’s left front side.
Zavala was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, where he was
later pronounced dead, Radford said.
Oliverasbecerra was not injured in the crash, which remained under
investigation Friday.
Anyone with information on the crash was asked to contact Officer Rios at the Indio CHP Office at (760) 772-8911.
