Dozens of firefighters respond to house fire

A fire burning through the roof of a Mecca home was quickly snuffed out by county firefighters Wednesday morning.

At 8:37 a.m., firefighters reported smoke and fire coming from the roof of a single-story home in the 91000 block of Sixth Street. Two dozen firefighters responded to the blaze and contained the flames within 20 minutes, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire crews will remain on scene for about two hours, Newman said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
