Police open Ramon Road after investigating deadly bike accident

A bicyclist was struck by a big rig early Friday morning in Palm Springs and died at the scene. The deadly crash happened at 4:48 a.m. on Ramon Road, just west of Paseo Dorotea.

Palm Springs police Sgt. Frank Guarino said the 49-year-old cyclist, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, was struck while biking eastbound on Ramon Road. The truck driver remained at the scene and was “cooperating fully with the investigation,” Guarino said.

Ramon Road was closed to traffic between El Placer Road and South Gene Autry Trail for the crash investigation. Anyone attempting to access Palm Springs International Airport was advised to use Vista Chino or Mesquite Avenue
as an alternate route.
