Police procession transports Officer Vega’s body to funeral home

On Tuesday afternoon, KESQ and CBS Local 2 spotted a small police procession moving the body of Officer Jose Gilbert Vega to a funeral home in Cathedral City. Officers announced memorial services for the two slain Palm Springs police officers earlier in the day.

The procession was made up from Palm Springs police cars and units with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department leading a hearse carrying an American flag-draped coffin. Officers said Vega’s body was being taken to Forest Lawn.

Vega, 63, was with the Palm Springs Police Department for 35 years — five years past his retirement eligibility. Vega had planned to finish his career in December.

Memorial Services for Fallen Officers Lesley Zerebny and Jose “Gil” Vega will take place on Tuesday, October 18th, at 11 a.m. The funeral will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center located at 277 North Avenida Caballeros, Palm Springs, CA 92262.

KESQ and CBS Local 2 will have full coverage of the memorial services and continue to provide updates as the shooting investigation continues to unfold.
