Woman identified after deadly crash in Palm Springs

Authorities released the identity of the woman who was killed Monday night after being struck by a car in Palm Springs. Jana Ploss, a 64-year-old from Palm Springs, was hit by the car at the intersection of East Vista Chino and N. Via Miraleste at about 6:15 p.m. Police said the car was headed eastbound on Vista Chino. The driver stopped and gave the woman aid while waiting for police. The woman was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center where she died about 20 minutes after being struck, according to the coroner’s office. This is the second deadly collision involving a pedestrian at the same intersection in the past six weeks. All lanes of Vista Chino were closed between Via Miraleste and Avenida Caballeros for nearly six hours during the investigation. There was no word if Ploss was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision. We hope to have more information from police soon.
