Crash spills firewood onto I-10
Police were working to clear debris from the roadway following a Palm Desert freeway crash Friday morning.
It was reported at 8:23 a.m. in the freeway’s eastbound lanes just past the Monterey Avenue bridge.
The California Highway Patrol reported a driver in a pickup truck, hauling a trailer, appeared to have lost control in the eastbound lanes then spun out then hit a center guardrail.
The impact threw firewood in the trailer and other debris onto the freeway’s westbound lanes.
Three westbound freeway lanes were blocked, along with the eastbound fast lane.
Traffic was backed up for a mile in both directions.
There was no word on any injuries.
Two of the three closed westbound lanes were reopened within a half hour’s time.
But eastbound traffic was still backed up a mile and a half, and at a near standstill as of 9:15 a.m.
